I guess it's kind of appropriate. I must be more in touch with my feminine side than I realized.

Dear Santa...
Dear Santa,
This year I've been busy!
In July I donated bone marrow to clanat in a life-saving procedure (300 points). Last Wednesday I stole albertt's purse (-30 points). In September I helped draconologist85 hide a body (-173 points). Last Sunday I bought porn for rainbow_rabbit (-10 points). Last Thursday I gave trekkiedrummer a life-saving blood transfusion (50 points).
Overall, I've been nice (137 points). For Christmas I deserve a new bike!
Sincerely, zhixing |

That was fun.
In other news, life in DC is alright. The job could be more exciting, but I've been finding loads of activities to do: fencing club, dodgeball, ultimate frisbee. Contact for further details.

Well, I decided to take a break from my vacation emails and make a post about what's going on in Nottingham. By the way, if you've been left out of my Italy vacation emails and you want in, just comment with your email address and I'll make sure you get in on the action.
First week of class, and I'm already back into the routine; although I've misjudged the time it takes to walk to class and I've been late several times. I suppose the biggest event of the week was my friend Colin dropping out of university. Admittedly, a degree in philosophy is a bit of a pointless degree. We had some good times though, and I'll miss him.
This Monday May 1st is a bank holiday, so we got a three day weekend. It's been pretty eventful. Went for a couple runs in Wollaton Park, the huge park right next to campus that I've only just now explored. There was a steam engine event going on at the time. People from all over the country come to the park and show off the crazy contraptions they've built to run on steam engines. Naturally as an engineer I found it all quite intriguing. I also learned how to play "Californication" on the violin.
This evening, I went with James to see Lady Vengeance at the Screen Room, the world's smallest cinema right here in Nottingham. It is from the same director as Oldboy, and it was quite a challenging film as well. I would recommend it to everyone. Afterwards, we went barhopping at Wetherspoons and the The Ropewalk. I had a glass of cheap wine and two pints of ale. I didn't expect that it would be too much, but as it turns out I was sick into a bush after getting off the bus back to campus. Apparently, James could see clouds of steam emerging from it. Oh well, nothing a nice cup of tea can't fix.
Also, why is it that every female I encounter takes this motherly attitude towards me? I let it be known that I'm going to Amsterdam with Toan, and Stephanie and Georgina start to make a fuss about me tripping on mushrooms and stepping in front of a tram. Am I really that easy to worry about?
I might as well jump on the bandwagon. If you comment...
1. I'll respond with something random I like about you. 2. I'll tell you what song/movie/recipe reminds me of you. 3. I'll name something we should do together. 4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me (or just me). 5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you - that I remember. 6. I'll leave you a quote that is somehow appropriate to you. 7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you. 8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal so you can do the same for other people. |

Yesterday was so harrowing, that I think it merits a LiveJournal entry. I was supposed to get on a flight to Koeln to visit Toan. I had everything I thought I needed packed in my backpack, and got a train to Manchester airport. Just as the train was leaving Sheffield, I realized my passport was still in the dorm, and I felt all my plans unravelling, not a good feeling. I couldn't catch my flight so I decided to head back to Nottingham, where some of my friends were still in hall. My air ticket is non-refundable and I wasted the train tickets to and from Manchester, about £150 pounds in total; a very expensive mistake I would say. My friend Dominic is putting me up for a few days in Stafford, and I've been enjoying some very generous hospitality. I have booked another flight to Germany, and I'll catch up with Toan on Monday in Berlin. This time I've got my passport. |

So, it's my first post in over two years. England is treating me pretty well, my hall just put on a wine and cheese night for my floor. The cheese here is so much better than home. Classes aren't too bad either, but I feel that some of the lecturers aren't really interested in your education; you're not supposed to ask questions during lecture either. Also, there isn't any assessment until exams at the end of the semester, so it's difficult to gauge your progress.
The school internet is pretty frustrating. Pretty much any internet traffic besides regular HTTP is restricted. That means no BitTorrent, DC++, Neverwinter Nights, Gunbound, etc. Luckily, there's an internal P2P network using Ares.
I've been reading popular science books: "Why is Sex Fun?" and "Guns, Germs, and Steel" by Jared Diamond "Slayers, Saviors, Servants, and Sex: An Exposé of the kingdom Fungi" by David Moore
I'm sure some of you are wondering whether or not I'm picking up the British acccent. From my perspective: not really. Maybe I'm saying film instead of movie, and to-mah-to instead of to-may-to, but that's pretty much it. |

Deceit. "What, I didn't do it, it was that guy over there!" Lies aren't really your style, more like creative advice. It's a personal quality you exhibit above all those around you of knowing who's going to believe you, and who won't. You survived the end by making sure that you were far far away while the person who you left tied to the chair, dressed to look like you, got what you deserved. That takes moxy... I tip my hat to you.

As dictators go, you're kind of pathetic! Instead of military coup or systematic persecution to get power, you just happen to be the head of the only party in the UK that isn't totally worthless! While not very impressive it is none the less effective! You can do whatever the hell you like without any chance of getting voted out of office! People know that the only alternative would have them eating their children if they ever got back into power! However, you still think that you are as loved as you were when you were first elected into power… News flash for you: You're not!

Creepy though, was that as I was standing in the lobby waiting for steven, I saw Chrissy, Ramsi, and Dathen pull up into the theatre parking lot. Apparently, they were just "driving" when they inexplicably decided to drive up to Albany to "kill time". A likely story; very stalkeresque. |
